Dry Lake

Today I flew to the Iola lunch with Jim, dropped him off back at Brennand Airport, flew to work in Green Bay, did a flight lesson, flew back, and then flew with Jim some more in the other Cessna 172, 15X.  On that last flight we flew to Waupaca and back.

The Waupaca River meets the Wolf River, east of Weyauwega

Tonight I saw a big change in the scenery: east of the Waupaca airport, in Weyauwega, an entire lake was missing! The Waupaca River carved a path through the middle of what used to be Lake Weyauwega. The lake had obviously been drained. I haven't flown in this area lately, so it was weird to see a landmark so changed.

A dry Lake Weyauwega!
After some Internet searches, I learned that the lake was drawn down in June as part of a major restoration project. I read an article at waupacanow.com and found a blog about the project.
