Signs of Spring

The ice on Lake Winnebago is getting thin. A quick blast of snow and a little wind left a wild pattern on the ice.


On a flight at sunset I saw some minor flooding near highway 10/45 northwest of Winneconne.

Ercoupe Sighting

Reliable government sources say that a blue and yellow Ercoupe was taxiing around Brennand Airport today with almost all of its parts intact. Two individuals were spotted boarding the airplane. The aircraft was started via its own electrical system for the first time in an undetermined number of years. The individuals were accused of running the airplane up and down the runway with a terrible urge to lift off. Eyewitnesses reported seeing at least one unnaturally large smile. Authorities were unable to detain the individuals before they returned the airplane to a hangar and escaped questioning.

Big Turnout for Manitowoc Lunch

Manitowoc's EAA Chapter 383 hosted a sloppy joe lunch from 11:00-1:30 p.m. today and I think they might have run out of food, it was so well-attended. Temps reached the 40s today and we had a clear but hazy sky. I think all the pilots in Wisconsin must have had cabin fever because it seemed like they all showed up. The event seemed to be advertised mostly through word of mouth and e-mail. Lots of pilots must have gotten the word -- I couldn't even fit the big row of planes into one decent picture. Several of us from Brennand Airport flew in, and I saw several planes I've never seen before. I brought a new student in the 172.

Vanya's First Solo

Congratulations to my student Vanya who took his first solo flight today in Waupaca! He is working toward his private pilot certificate while still in high school and is hoping for a career in aviation. He has made a lot of progress since late December and today got to experience an empty right seat.
